Life’s Plans and Expectations

one of life’s most complex situations we encounter on a daily basis is the idea of “Are the expectations I have for my life coming true?” growing up, when I was overly excited about an upcoming life event, my dad would always say “don’t look too forward to (said event) it will never live up to the perfect expectation you have in your head.” wise words, and many years later, I’m reflecting on his repetitive phrase and how it impacts me today when my plan is altered. “how do I handle not meeting my expectations?”

trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

since I surrendered my life to the Lord 2 years ago, my perspective on the plan for my life has changed a lot. it's certainly much easier said than done, but trusting God has you right where you’re supposed to be and knowing he won’t challenge you with anything you cant handle provides an opportunity to completely change your outlook. we have a habit to always thinks the grass is greener on the other side, if only I had this… life would be so much easier.. but sometimes watering the grass where your feet are can open a greater purpose instead of always chasing where you want or expect to be. all of this isn’t to say forget about being driven towards your goals, but understanding how Gods plans might not always align with your expectation. consistently leaning into the LORD will help reveal where he wants to lead you. there is always eternal purpose to be found in any season of life no matter how foreign it may feel.

the final piece of the puzzle is how do I understand God’s plans for me. the simplest answer to that is building our relationship him.

for all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:14

reading scripture, living in fellowship, and praying regularly are a few of many ways in which we can build our relationship with him to allow the Holy Spirit into our lives for influence on our hearts and minds. with that greater understanding of Gods heart, the more likely it is for our plans and expectations to be aligned with that who has the greatest love for us.

for God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life John 3:16

As I was reading I remembered as a child when I would struggle with my faith my dad would tell me “ the Lord will not give you a cross any heavier then you can carry“ until I have gotten older I didn't really understand how true this was, lay it all at his feet, he is there and will never leave my side.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
