the goodness of God is ongoing and unending. it always will be. that’s how good He is.

when i think of God’s goodness, i always think back to the song ‘Goodness of God’ by Jenn Johnson and Bethel Music, specifically this part.

‘cause Your goodness

is running after

it’s running after me

Your goodness is running after

it’s running after me.’

i was just thinking about these words and what they were meant to convey, what the purpose of the lyrics were.

i feel like we can get caught up in the thought of us pursuing and chasing after God, that we may not think about it on the flip side as well. God’s pursuit of your heart is ongoing and unending. in Psalm 139:7-10 it says ‘where shall i go from Your Spirit? or where shall i flee from Your presence? if i ascend to Heaven, you are there! if i make my bed in Sheol, you are there! if i take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, even there Your right hand shall hold me.’David makes it clear that there is nowhere on earth he can go to escape the love of God; Heaven isn’t too high, and Hell isn’t too low, the speed of light is unable to outrun His pursuit, not even the dark depths of the ocean are capable of hiding your heart from our God. not only does David say that God’s presence would be with you, but that God cares for you no matter situation comes, that His hand will hold you and lead you wherever it may be.

a beautiful depiction of this intentional pursuit is the parable of the lost sheep. you can find this either in Matthew 18:10-14 or Luke 15:1-7. this parable is about is a man who has 100 sheep who would leave the 99 others in the open country if just 1, only 1, of the sheep, were to have gone astray. and when the man finds the lost sheep, he brings together his friends saying, ‘rejoice with me, for i have found my sheep that was lost.’ this parable in the book of Luke says that pharisees and scribes were grumbling amongst themselves because Jesus was inviting and receiving of sinners. Jesus says to them at the end of this parable, ‘just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.’ for Jesus came to save the sick, ‘not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance’ Luke 5:32.

we are all sinners, we are all in need of a physician, and His name is Jesus. take heart in knowing that the Creator of the universe, the one who knit you together, will never stop pursuing you. there is no party too big for Heaven.

God’s goodness is ongoing and unending.
