God is faithful, even through generations, He is a promise keeper. not once in the Bible does God not come true on His word. it won’t always be on our timeline, in fact, it rarely will be, but in His timing, He will deliver on the promises He has made.
I think when we look at God’s faithfulness it should give us so much confidence. we look back on these historical stories and see how God has come through time and time again. we hear people’s testimonies about trusting God and then they see how He delivers, and it’s always so abundantly more than we could imagine. God is always outshining our imaginations in His faithful deliveries.
i hope in reading this blog this week we all gain some confidence in the Lord. a confidence that is growing deeper, a confidence that is becoming unwavering. a confidence that is built on the Lord’s perfect track record. not a confidence that is crumbling when God doesn’t meet our timelines or a confidence that is lost when a prayer seems to go unanswered for too long.
for instance, if you had a friend that you had known your whole life, that was the most trusting person you could ever imagine; they were never late for anything, if they said they would show up they would be there, they always held true to their word no matter what it was about, it would be really easy to trust them right? BUT if you didn’t know who this was and were just going off hearsay from another person, would you really believe it to be true? you see, i think our lack of confidence doesn’t stem from not knowing the track record, but from not personally knowing who this trusting person is. you have to have your own faith, and your own relationship, if you want to be confident in believing that the Lord will do what He has said.
i want to bring up some stories from the Bible of promises being kept, of God holding true to His word, so that we may gain confidence in who He is.
one of the coolest promises to me is in this verse right here, Isaiah 43:2 ‘when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.’ God starts out this verse reminding His people that He has already split the Red Sea for them, the waters would not overwhelm them as long as God was with them, and He was. God takes his past promise and goes a step further, that even if you walk through the fire you shall not be consumed, because He is with us. we see this promise fulfilled in the book of Daniel, when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would not worship the image of gold that king Nebuchadnezzar had set up. due to these three men standing up against the king, Nebuchadnezzar ordered them to be thrown into this giant furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm on the word of the Lord saying, ‘if this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hands’ Daniel 3:17. the fire was so hot that the servants of Nebuchadnezzar who escorted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were consumed by the flames upon opening the door. when the three men were inside the furnace, king Nebuchadnezzar says to his counselors ‘but i see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire and they are not hurt, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the Gods’. Daniel 3:25. when the men were called out of the furnace the crowd had gathered near to see that the fire had no power over their bodies. ‘the hairs of their heads were not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.’ Daniel 3:27.
there are many more stories about promises that God has held his word true to. like His deliverance of His people out of Egypt, and His promise to Noah about bringing a flood that would cover the earth, and so many more. but i want to encourage you to not only read and hear about the promises of God, but to experience them for yourself.
i’m not saying to go walk through fire, but have you taken up Jesus’s promise to give rest to all who are weary and burdened? do you seek Him out with all your heart to find Him? do you believe that whatever the enemy meant for evil, God will turn it and work it for your good?
there are so many promises that Jesus is waiting for you to grab hold of, and i would encourage you to reach out your hand. He won’t let you down, He never has.
